Repair & Modification
What is repair and modification?
Repair and modification is in-clinic work on an existing orthosis, prosthesis, or related device: replacing straps and joints, relining a socket, adjusting alignment, patching a shell, or changing a shoe modification. It is a service, not a new product line. Same-day or short-turnaround work is often possible when parts are on hand.
Why is repair and modification performed?
Bodies, activity, and materials change. A device that fit at delivery can cause pain or fail after weight change, growth, a new liner, or ordinary wear. Prompt repair protects skin and keeps the patient walking or using the arm. Ignoring a broken strap or a loose joint can create a fall or a pressure sore. Modifications are also used when the treatment plan changes (for example, more or less motion allowed).
Key benefits of repair and modification?
- Restores a safe, wearable device without always fabricating a new one
- Addresses hot spots, looseness, and alignment before they become injuries
- Extends the useful life of custom work
- Keeps the patient in their prescribed program with less downtime
