Don’t let mobility challenges hold you back. Our experienced team provides custom orthotic and prosthetic solutions designed around your needs, comfort, and goals.
Prefabricated LSOs (Lumbar-Sacral Orthoses) and TLSOs (Thoracic-Lumbar-Sacral Orthoses) are ready-made spinal braces designed to support, stabilize, and protect the lower back or the mid-to-lower spine. Unlike custom-made braces, prefabricated orthoses are manufactured in standard sizes and can be adjusted to fit a wide range of patients.
- Prefabricated LSO (Lumbar-Sacral Orthosis): Supports the lumbar (lower back) and sacral (pelvic) regions. It helps reduce pain, limit excessive movement, improve posture, and provide stability during recovery from injury or surgery.
- Prefabricated TLSO (Thoracic-Lumbar-Sacral Orthosis): Extends from the upper or mid-back down to the pelvis, providing support for the thoracic (mid-back), lumbar (lower back), and sacral regions. It offers greater spinal immobilization than an LSO and is commonly used for more extensive spinal conditions or post-surgical protection.
When are Prefabricated LSOs and TLSOs Recommended?
Prefabricated LSOs and TLSOs may be recommended for:
- Acute or chronic back pain
- Muscle strains and ligament injuries
- Degenerative disc disease
- Compression or stable spinal fractures
- Spinal stenosis
- Scoliosis (in selected cases)
- Recovery after spinal surgery
- Temporary spinal support during healing
What are the Benefits of Prefabricated LSOs and TLSOs?
The benefits of prefabricated LSOs and TLSOs include:
- Available immediately without waiting for custom fabrication
- Provides spinal support and stability
- Helps reduce pain by limiting harmful movement
- Encourages proper posture and alignment
- Adjustable straps allow for a secure, comfortable fit
- Cost-effective compared with custom braces
- Lightweight and easy to put on and remove
Who May Benefit from Prefabricated LSOs and TLSOs?
Prefabricated LSOs and TLSOs are often suitable for patients who need short- to medium-term spinal support and whose condition can be effectively managed with an adjustable, off-the-shelf brace. If a patient's anatomy or condition requires a more precise fit, a custom spinal orthosis may be recommended instead.
What Can You Expect During Prefabricated LSO and TLSO Treatment?
Treatment with a prefabricated LSO or TLSO typically begins with an evaluation by your healthcare provider or orthotist to determine the appropriate brace and size for your condition. The brace is then fitted and adjusted to ensure proper support, comfort, and alignment.
You will receive instructions on how to correctly put on, remove, and care for your brace, as well as guidance on how long it should be worn each day. As you recover, your provider will monitor your progress through follow-up visits and may adjust the fit or wearing schedule as needed. The brace is often used alongside other treatments, such as physical therapy, medication, or activity modification, to support healing and improve spinal function.
