Tim Nelson, BOCO, Director
Director of Orthotics and Prosthetics
Tim was born and raised in Colorado Springs. He attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, where he studied business management. After college he became a certified fitness instructor before attending the Colorado Springs Police Academy, from which he graduated in 1994.
While at the police academy, Tim began his own construction contracting company, which quickly grew and became successful. He discovered that he greatly enjoyed working with his hands and getting to see his visions go from ideas to completed projects.
In early 2001, Tim went back to school to pursue another area of study of great interest to him: science. For several years, Tim studied biology, anatomy and physiology, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, and architecture at Pikes Peak Community College.
In 2003, Tim saw the marriage of his two great interests – working with his hands to build things, and anatomy and physiology – when he accepted a job working for Audubon Orthotic & Prosthetic Services.
Drawing from his background in construction and applying his love of science, Tim is able to think creatively with his approach to patient care and build orthotics with innovative design and a mastery of form and function.
Dedicated to continuing his education and learning the newest advances in the field, Tim has attended multiple courses and conferences including:
- Horton’s Stance Control Orthotic Knee Joint (SCOKJ)
- Ottobock conventional locked KAFO’s and dynamic response AFO’s
- Miami-J competency program
- TCFlex total contact-total control orthotic management using the TCFlex AFO System
- Orthotic management of deformational plagiocephaly and other head shape deformities
- Multidisciplinary management of high risk diabetic feet
Additionally, Tim is a certified fitter for custom vascular garments for phlebology/lymphology. He has attended many workshops including fabrication workshops, technician workshops, Townsend Design bracing solutions, and College Park products. He became an ABC-certified orthotic fitter (CFO) in 2003 and in 2009 he became a BOC-certified orthotist (BOCO).
In 2013, Tim became the director of orthotics and prosthetics at Audubon O & P and enjoys serving the residents of Colorado Springs with their orthotic and prosthetic needs.
Outside of work, Tim enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and dogs as well as riding his motorcycle, reading, and photography. He also enjoys woodworking, building various projects, and inventing a new mousetrap, when time allows.
