Tim Nelson, BOCO, Director

Tim Nelson, BOCO, Certified Orthotist

Director of Orthotics and Prosthetics

Tim was born and raised in Colorado Springs. He attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, where he studied business management. After college he became a certified fitness instructor before attending the Colorado Springs Police Academy, from which he graduated in 1994.

While at the police academy, Tim began his own construction contracting company, which quickly grew and became successful. He discovered that he greatly enjoyed working with his hands and getting to see his visions go from ideas to completed projects.

In early 2001, Tim went back to school to pursue another area of study of great interest to him: science. For several years, Tim studied biology, anatomy and physiology, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, and architecture at Pikes Peak Community College.

In 2003, Tim saw the marriage of his two great interests – working with his hands to build things, and anatomy and physiology – when he accepted a job working for Audubon Orthotic & Prosthetic Services.

Drawing from his background in construction and applying his love of science, Tim is able to think creatively with his approach to patient care and build orthotics with innovative design and a mastery of form and function.

Dedicated to continuing his education and learning the newest advances in the field, Tim has attended multiple courses and conferences including:

  • Horton’s Stance Control Orthotic Knee Joint (SCOKJ)
  • Ottobock conventional locked KAFO’s and dynamic response AFO’s
  • Miami-J competency program
  • TCFlex total contact-total control orthotic management using the TCFlex AFO System
  • Orthotic management of deformational plagiocephaly and other head shape deformities
  • Multidisciplinary management of high risk diabetic feet

Additionally, Tim is a certified fitter for custom vascular garments for phlebology/lymphology. He has attended many workshops including fabrication workshops, technician workshops, Townsend Design bracing solutions, and College Park products. He became an ABC-certified orthotic fitter (CFO) in 2003 and in 2009 he became a BOC-certified orthotist (BOCO).

In 2013, Tim became the director of orthotics and prosthetics at Audubon O & P and enjoys serving the residents of Colorado Springs with their orthotic and prosthetic needs.

Outside of work, Tim enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and dogs as well as riding his motorcycle, reading, and photography. He also enjoys woodworking, building various projects, and inventing a new mousetrap, when time allows.

Certified Prosthetist/Orthotist

Chelsea earned her bachelor of science in orthotics and prosthetics from the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Allied Health Sciences School in 2007. During that time, she was awarded the UTSW Dean’s Competitive Scholarship and did her senior focus training in spondylolisthesis.

Chelsea completed many internships at prosthetic and orthotic facilities in Missouri and north Texas, including the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC). TSRHC treats children with orthopedic conditions, such as scoliosis, clubfoot, hand disorders, hip disorders, and limb length differences, as well as certain related neurological disorders.

Through this training, Chelsea enhanced her knowledge and skill in treating children with these health issues. She is a very caring practitioner and especially enjoys working with our pediatric patients.

Chelsea is certified by Ottobock, Freedom, and Ossur to provide the C-Leg®, Plie, and Rheo microprocessor knee units. She has completed courses in specialized diagnoses and areas of treatment, such as scoliosis and foot and ankle disorders. Chelsea has been on staff since April, 2013. Nicole Olson, CPO

Nicole Olson

Certified Orthotist/Prosthetist

Growing up in Colorado Springs, Nicole was exposed to the military personnel in need of prosthetic and orthotic devices. Her engineering mind, love for problem solving, and desire to give back guided her to the field of orthotics and prosthetics.

Nicole attended the University of Iowa and graduated with a bachelor of science in biomedical engineering with a focus in musculoskeletal biomechanics. She spent much of this time researching and creating preliminary designs of various medical devices.

After graduating, Nicole received her master’s degree in prosthetics and orthotics from Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. During her education, she completed a capstone project where she conducted a research study tilted, Leg Length Discrepancies and their Effect on Clinically Relevant Outcome Measures.

Nicole was a founding and active member of the Northwestern University Prosthetics and Orthotics Student Society, for which she acted as networking chair. She has spent time volunteering with adaptive sports camps and encourages her patients to remain active.

She takes the time to listen to her patients and works with them to find the appropriate solution. She understands the importance of patient education and follow-up to ensure the best outcome is achieved.

In her free time, Nicole enjoys escaping to the mountains and appreciating the great outdoors.
